Cream the Rabbit (クリーム・ザ・ラビット Kurīmu za Rabitto?) is a video game character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of video games. She first debuted in Sonic Advance 2 for the Game Boy Advance on December 19, 2002.

Cream is a young, cream-colored, female, anthropomorphic rabbit who can fly by flapping her ears. She is six years old, 70 cm (2' 3"), and weighs 12 kg (26.4 lbs).[1] Cream is the daughter of Vanilla the Rabbit, and is rarely seen without her lifelong companion, Cheese (チーズ Chīzu?), whom she uses as a method of attack. Their names are references to "cream cheese". She and Charmy Bee are the youngest characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, both being six years old.

Cream's ears are often mistaken for being placed backwards. In truth, rabbits can swivel their ears about to a degree, and in certain depictions (such as when Cream is falling from a great height) are shown swiveled forwards when straightened.

Cream is extremely polite, follows manners, and does what she is told. She is very friendly and tries to be close to everyone she meets. She is usually not afraid to go out on an adventure. However, she is a bit naive, since she is still very young.

Cream enjoys spending most of her time outdoors. There, she likes to play with her friends, usually any activity they want, or collect flowers which she finds pretty and joyful. She loves adventures and exploring. Indoors, she enjoys watching TV and loves eating ice cream, which is her favorite treat.

Cream does not like any form of violence, however, she learns to fight to protect the people she cares about in Sonic Battle. Like most of the heroes in the Sonic series, she does not like Eggman, but as a custom, she is still polite to the doctor.

Although Cream's first appearance (actually, a cameo) was in Sonic Mega Collection as artwork, her canonical debut was in Sonic Advance 2, where she was the first unlockable playable character. Like Tails and Knuckles, she is kidnapped by Doctor Eggman and Sonic must rescue her before she can become playable. Just before the final level, Eggman kidnaps her mother, Vanilla, who is eventually rescued by Super Sonic after he destroys the final boss. Cream can use spin-attacks, order Cheese to destroy enemies, and can fly by flapping her ears (though she gets tired out after a short period of time, similar to Tails).

In Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut, after passing the casino stage with Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, Cream & Cheese can be seen flying over the city for a short amount of time. This easter-egg is very hard to spot.

In Sonic Heroes, Cream is part of Team Rose, the "Beginner" Team, consisting of her, Amy Rose and Big the Cat, acting as their flight member. The trio are on a quest to find Cheese's sibling, Chocola, a brown Chao with a blue bow tie, as well as Big the Cat's friend Froggy, and Sonic. Sonic was seen in a newspaper photograph with Froggy and Chocola. In the game, she can only use Cheese as a means of self-defense when the other two team members are incapacitated or otherwise not present.

In Sonic Battle, Cream is a playable character and lives with Amy Rose in her apartment, where she helps Amy boxercise. She quickly befriends Emerl and teaches him about sadness and emotions after his violence makes her cry.

Much like in Sonic Advance 2, Cream is an unlockable character in its sequel, Sonic Advance 3. When Cream is teamed up with any character, Cheese can transform into the shape of the player character and be controlled by him or her. Cream plays much like in Sonic Advance 2, except for various team-up bonuses that can give her a parasol to float with, a device that lets her float on water, or a hammer similar to Amy's. After the final ending, Tails reprograms Gemerl so that he befriends Cream and Vanilla.

Cream has a supporting role in Sonic Rush. Throughout the course of the game, Cream cheers Blaze the Cat on during the battles and helps her to find Sonic. Cream is held hostage by Eggman during the final boss of Blaze's game but is rescued by Blaze. She is sad to hear from Sonic that Blaze had to go back to her dimension.

In Sonic Pinball Party, Cream and Cheese are the guides in mini game mode.

In Shadow the Hedgehog, Cream and Cheese are trapped in the Cryptic Castle stage, where Shadow can choose to help Amy rescue them. Her voice can also be heard on several levels in Expert Mode, when she cheers for Shadow.

Cream makes an appearance in Sonic Riders as an unlockable player, but has no role in the game's story. Her type is Flight, and her default board is named "Smile". She wears a different outfit like Amy and Rouge, and can be unlocked by beating Hero Story mode. Cream shows off her crying face at the opponent for her Level 1 attack and can use Cheese for her Level 2 and 3 attacks.

Cream appears on several collectible cards in Sonic Rivals.

Cream makes an appearance in Sonic and the Secret Rings as a playable character in the game's Party Mode. She is unlocked once the player collects 42 Fire Souls.

Cream appears in the crossover sports game, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. However, she isn't playable and acts as a referee, along with Charmy Bee, Espio the Chameleon, Big the Cat, Toad, Lakitu, Koopa Troopa and Shy Guy.

Cream will be a playable character in the upcoming Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity.

Cream can achieve flight by flapping with her two rather large ears. Although she cannot fly as high or for as long as Tails can, she can fly faster, allowing her to cover a greater horizontal distance. While being able to mimic Sonic's basic spin-attack and spin dash, she attacks by having her Chao, Cheese, ram into her adversaries.

Cheese (チーズ Chīzu?) is a blue neutral Chao and the best friend of Cream the Rabbit. He wears a red bow-tie that differences him from other Chao.

Cheese's first appearance was in Sonic Advance 2 for the Game Boy Advance. In Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Advance 3 and Sonic Battle, Cheese is accompanied by Cream and is a method of attack. Cream points to an enemy, and Cheese charges forward and destroys or damages the enemy on contact. In Sonic Advance 3, Cheese has the unique ability to temporarily shape-shift into a Chao version of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy upon being teamed with them.

Since Sonic Heroes, Cream and Amy Rose are portrayed as good friends and share a sister-like relationship, comparable to Sonic and Tails' brother-like friendship. This fact is strengthened by Sonic Advance 3, as when they are paired together, they are given the title Team Jubilee and serve as a counterpart to Sonic and Tails' Unbreakable Bond. The two also seem to be together almost completely throughout Sonic Battle, except when Emerl drags one of them away. Amy is also seen searching for Cream during one of the levels in Shadow the Hedgehog, which could suggest how much she cares for her. Also, in Sonic X, Cream and Amy share a similar relationship. Next to Cheese, Amy is Cream's best friend.

As the parentage of the other main characters has never been touched upon/revealed, Cream is currently only one of two characters in the series who has a known parent that is active in their daily life, the other one being Tikal the Echidna. However, she is the third character to have known relatives, as Doctor Eggman has three - Professor Gerald, Maria, and Eggman Nega. Tikal had her father, Pachacamac (this does not include the Sonic comic continuity, in which virtually all of the major characters have known parents).

Cream has a starring role in the Sonic anime, Sonic X. Though she is not as active as many other characters, she presents her own talents in the anime. Her first appearance is in the premier episode, where Sonic tries to save her from Dr. Eggman's base, right before the Chaos Control that tossed Sonic and his friends to Earth. She supports Sonic on his adventures for the Chaos Emeralds throughout the first season. In the third season she travels with her friends into space to help Cosmo stop the Metarex. In both English and Japanese versions of Sonic X, her mother has Cream's voice actress.

While a majority of the Sonic cast from the games have made their appearance in Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comics, Cream, Cheese and Vanilla have not been introduced in the comic, most likely because there is already a female rabbit in the series, Bunnie Rabbot. However, a scrapped storyline featuring Cream as a character was to have been introduced following issue #134.[2] She does appear in Archie's Sonic X comic, reprising her role from the cartoon series.
