Cousin Skeeter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cousin Skeeter was a comedy television show which ran on Nickelodeon from 1998 to 2001. It starred Robert Ri'chard as Bobby, a young boy whose life is turned upside down when his strange cousin Skeeter comes to live with his family. With Skeeter's help, Bobby learns life lessons and tackles the general ups and downs of growing up. The show also included Meagan Good as Bobby's "girlfriend" Nina, Rondell Sheridan as Bobby's father Andre, and Angela Means as Bobby's mother Vanessa. Skeeter is portrayed by a puppet with Bill Bellamy providing his voice. Within the show, Skeeter is treated like a regular human and no mention of him being a puppet is made. In 1999, Cousin Skeeter toys were also featured in the Kids Meal at Burger King. Currently, there are no plans for a DVD release of the series.
Cousin Skeeter was among a handful of Nickelodeon shows, including Kenan & Kel and My Brother and Me, to feature a predominately African-American cast. The show's theme song is an alternate version of 702's 1997 hit "Steelo", written by Missy Elliott.
- It is believed that the name "Skeeter" was inspired by the show Doug. However, others believe that it came from The Muppet Show.
- In the first season, Skeeter's belches were very loud, and the camera would usually shake as the result. In later seasons, the stock belching sound was replaced with a milder one, and the camera shaking was toned down slightly.
- Some people mistakenly refer to it as My Cousin Skeeter.
