Community College of Philadelphia is a community college in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The main campus is located at 1700 Spring Garden Street.

Community College of Philadelphia is an open-admission, Associate degree granting institution with more than 70 degree and certificate programs in the arts, business, health care, science and technology, humanities and social sciences and human services. Enrolling more than 38,000 students annually[citation needed], the College is the largest institution of higher education in Philadelphia.

Like many community colleges, CCP offers dual admissions programs and transfer agreements for transferring to a four-year college or university. CCP offers ESL courses to help international students improve their English skills. The school has study abroad oppurtunities to Mexico, Spain and England.

Early in the spring semester of 2007 there has been a threatened strike by the workers of the college (both teaching and non teaching staff). There are two main issues of contention; one is medical benifits the other is for the disclosure of the appropriations of certain administrative funds. There will be a practice strike on February the 27th, this will go through even though a strike is not allowed while negotiations are still underway. The strike is threatened to begin the week of March the 12th 2007.

At the General Membership Meeting of the Faculty & Staff Federation of CCP, held on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 6:00 p.m., all three bargaining units voted unanimously to call a strike, effective at 7:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007.

Members of the Community should consider the College closed as of 7:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 13, 2007.

Community College of Philadelphia is open today, Tuesday, March 13th. Administrative and student support staff are available. Classes have been suspended until further notice. Students should continue to check their email for additional labor negotiation updates throughout the day.


As of the morning of march sixteenth 2007 picketers from the three bargaining parties are still in front of the school. Talks are scheduled for the weekend between the staff and the administration.

A deal was struck at a conference room on 18th and market and classes began once again on tuesday march 27th 2007. This was exactly two weeks from the first day of the strike.
