Cocky was Kid Rock's third album released with Atlantic Records, released in 2001. It got out of the gates slow but his crossover country/pop hit, "Picture", with Sheryl Crow resurrected the album going gold as a single and pushed the album to 5 million in sales.

Cocky was a transition album from his rap metal sound that made him famous to southern rock and country music that has seen sales decline, but critics praise the change. "Trucker Anthem" and "Forever" pick up were Devil Without A Cause left off loud in your face b- boy bragging over funk metal gutairs. "Lay It On Me" and "Cocky" are mid tempo funk songs over a slow old school style rap. Lay It On Me incorparates a little bluegrass and doo wop on the chorus. The transformation begins on track five, in "What I Learned Out On The Road" a southern rocker with a funky rap rock chorus. "I'm Wrong,But You Ain't Right" is the albums beefiest track after teasing you with a psuedo ballad at the beginning. I'm a Dog is another hard rocker left off Devil when they couldnt get clearance on a Creedence Clearwater Revival sample . He dips into the blues for Baby Come Home and the first half of Drunk In The Morning the second half sounds like 80's style metal, that drifts into a southern rock chorus. You Never Met A Motherfucker Quite Like Me combines southern rock with r&b and hip hop style vocals. Cocky incorporated country ballads to Kid's catalog including "Lonely Road Of Faith" and "Midnight Train To Memphis". Seeming nervous on the two songs he throws in rap parts to the songs.Which wasn't the case for "Picture" which was a straight country ballad leading to it becoming a huge hit . The album finishes up with the over the top bonus track featuring Snoop Dogg called WCSR (World Class Sex Rhymes).
