Claire Clancy

Claire Clancy is Registrar of Companies for England and Wales. Claire joined Companies House in April 2002 from the Patent Office, where she was responsible for Corporate Services. Her earlier career was spent in a variety of public sector posts including serving as Chief Executive of a Training and Enterprise Council (TEC) and a period as Director of Policy and Planning at Companies House.
As Chief Executive, Claire is responsible for the overall direction and leadership of the Agency. She is accountable to DTI and its Ministers for the performance and finances of Companies House. She also has the formal statutory role of Registrar of Companies for England and Wales, and is the first woman to hold this position in over 150 years.
Claire has recently been appointed the new chief executive and clerk of the Welsh assembly. She will lead the assembly commission, a new body in charge of the day to day running of the assembly from next May. Her appointment was confirmed by a vote in the assembly chamber.
She is married to the Governor of St. Helena and Ascension Island, Michael Clancy.
