Chelmsford City)
Chelmsford City Football Club are an English football (soccer) team based in the town of Chelmsford, Essex. They currently play in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
The club is based in Chelmsford, which, despite the team's name, is not a city but the county town of Essex. The current team was founded as a professional team in 1938, after an amateur team played at the New Writtle Street ground between 1922 and 1938 which was formed in 1878. Chelmsford City's local rivals include Billericay Town, Heybridge Swifts, Canvey Island and Braintree Town
The club's manager is Jeff King who took over from Craig Edwards in May 2006 from Canvey Island F.C. taking most of Canveys players with him. The club previously played at the New Writtle Street ground from their formation in 1938 until 1997 where the club where made homeless and shared first with Maldon Town and then with Billericay Town F.C. at the New Lodge. The Club then moved back home to Chelmsford in 2006 at the Melbourne Athletic track also known as Chelmsford Athletic Centre.
The first game back at Melbourne Park against former landlords Billericay Town was played out in front of an 3000 capacity crowd with many people who turned up late left outside the ground unable to get in. Chelmsford won 2-1 with Jamie Richards gaining the first ever goal at the new stadium on 21 minutes.
