The Carolina Speed are a franchise of the American Indoor Football Association scheduled to begin play in 2007. They will play their home games at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center in Concord, North Carolina.

Contents

There were reports of a team called the Carolina Fuel playing in that arena for the 2007 season, but the AIFA admitted that the owners jumped the gun. However, on September 6, the new Carolina team was announced. The name Speed comes from the winning name of a contest held at the Cabarrus County fair, as well as paying tribute to North Carolina's NASCAR heritage.

This will be the third attempt at a franchise located in the Carolina area. The first two, the Carolina Sharks and the Carolina Ghostriders, failed within weeks of settling in Carolina.
