C-bill

The C-bill, or ComStar Bill, is the standard form of currency used in the science fiction universe of BattleTech and MechWarrior. C-bills make up about 10% of all currency in the Inner Sphere.
C-Bills are issued by ComStar who, by virtue of their neutrality, were able to make their currency into the primary medium of exchange. Thus, while the vast majority of business is conducted in state currency, C-Bills are the currency of choice for business that is transacted across national boundaries.
In context with the real world, a single C-bill has about the same value as three US dollars of the late 1990s.
By contrast, H-Bill is the collective term applied to currency issued by the Great Houses, though each of the five nations issue their own currency. While the value of H-Bills is largely dependent on the strength of the nation's economy, H-Bills are backed up by crucial resources, such as water and precious metals. H-bills make up about 90% of all currency in the Inner Sphere.
