The order of precedence in Brazil is a symbolic hierarchy of officials used to direct protocol. It is regulated by the Presidential Decree n. 70.274 of March 9, 1972 and signed by former presidente Emilio Medici. The following order applies to ceremonies hosted by the Federal government.

  1. President of the Republic, currently Luíz Inácio Lula da Silva
  2. Vice-Presidente of the Republic, currently José Alencar
  3. President of the Chamber of Deputies
  4. President of Senate
  5. President of the Supreme Court
  6. Brazilian cardinals, currently in number of eight
  7. Foreign ambassadors
  8. Ministers of State (Justice, Defense, Foreign Relations, Economy, Transportantion, Agriculture, Education, Labour, Social Security, Health, Industry and Commerce, Energy, Planning, Interior, Communications etc.)
  9. Head of the Military Cabinet
  10. Head of the Civil Cabinet
