Bhilwara is a town in Mewar region of Rajasthan, India, 600 km from Delhi. It is the administrative seat of Bhilwara District.

Tradition has it that it came to be known as Bhilwara because it was mostly inhabited by Bhils in old days. These Bhils were eventually driven away towards the hilly tracts and interior places of less importance by the ancestors of the peasant settlers. Ironically enough ,now very few Bhils live in this area. Another version recounts that the present Bhilwara city had a mint where coins known as 'BHILADI' were minted and from this denomination was derived the name of the district. Over the years it has emerged out as the TEXTILE CITY of Rajasthan. Now a days ,Bhilwara is better known as the textile city in the country.The city is assumed to be the base of the Mugals when they attacked Chittor Garh. Chittor is where the Mugal Emperor married his wife.
Bhilwara(bēlvä`rə) is located at .[1] It has an average elevation of 421 metres (1381 feet).
As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Bhilwara had a population of 2009516. Male constitutes 53% of the population and females 47%. Bhilwara has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 74% and female literacy of 55%. 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The major industry is textiles, with more than 400 manufacturing units in the town. There is also a huge cloth market. The main textile product is synthetic fabric used in trousers. The city is a market for mica, grains, cotton, and wool. Its manufactures include textiles and metalware.
The city is connected through National Highway No. 79 towards Ajmer Jaipur and Udaipur, which makes accessile the major cities. National Highway 79 is along the city. The four lame highway is on golden quadrilateral and connects Bhilwara with major Cities in a swift. Broad gauge railway line is under construction. Broad gauge project is expected to be finished by April 2007.
Besides popularity of Bhilwara for Textile industry, it has a strong base of cultural heritage.
Bhilwara is famous for following other things as well:
- Art, great Indian Miniature artists like Badri Lal Chitrakar highlights the city on international maps for Indian Miniature Art. He has been given Shilp Guru award recently by Vice-President of India.
- Gazak, famous sweet. It is made up of Til and famous around whole Rajasthan.
- Bhilwara is the source of National Basketball team members. This city is considered to be the mine of basketball players. The well known coach Priyadarshi Diwakar is training players in the city.
- Harni Mahadev, the famous shiv temple, dedicated in the Social service by Darak family.

- There is a Kalp varksh near to aamaa village. which is 22 km. far from the city.
- Bhilwara is also known for its government college of engineering - MLV Textile college.
- There are a few decent hotels for the visitors, providing AC accomodation and infact not bad given the size of the city. To name a few, Hotel Landmark, Hotel Harsha Palace, Hotel Harsha Deep, Hotel Arihant etc.
- One of the famous road side eateries in Shastrinagar called as Chetna Chat Wala, famous for bhelpuris, pani puris, aloo tikkis.
- Byawar wala halwai; famous for sweets.
SINGOLI SHAYAM IS ALSO FAMUS. IT IS 50 KM FAR FROM CITY IN EAST&SOUTH.
