Banana, Queensland

Banana (postcode: 4702, ) is a small town located in Central Queensland, Australia, in the Banana Shire, a Local Government Area. The shire's population is approximately 14,300 persons (ABS 2003 estimate). Banana is located at the intersection of the Dawson and Leichhardt highways, 46 kilometres west of the shire's administrative centre, Biloela.
The town was named in 1880 after a 'yellow' coloured bull, which was used by stockmen in the early days of the beef industry.
The beef industry is still a mainstay of the town and area, along with coal and agriculture.
