BOAC 500

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BOAC 500 miles was a sports car race run at Brands Hatch and sponsored by the British BOAC airline. Originally an exhibition race in 1966, it become part of the World Sportscar Championship in 1967. For 1970 the race was extended to 1000km and consequently renamed the BOAC 1000. The race ran on in this form until 1972 after which it was dropped from the calendar. The race was briefly revived for the 1974 season as the BA 1000, with BOAC replaced as title sponsor by its newly merged successor British Airways. This was the final running of a fixed-distance World Sportscar event at Brands Hatch.
