Awit sa Paglikha ng Bagong Pilipinas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Awit sa Paglikha ng Bagong Pilipinas is a patriotic song written by Filipino composer Felipe Padilla de Leon. It was commissioned during the Philippine Japanese Occupation and intended to supplant Lupang Hinirang (then known in its English translation as the Philippine Hymn) as the national anthem.

It was later re-used during the Martial Law period as the secondary national anthem (along with Lupang Hinirang), under the title Awit sa Paglikha ng Bagong Lipunan (which is different from another hymn, the "Bagong lipunan Hymn" (also composed by de Leon) which was also sung after the Philippine national anthem").

In line with the celebration of the Philippine Centennial in 1998, it was recorded by the Philippine Madrigal Singers in an anthology of historic patriotic songs entitled Bayan Ko, Aawitan Kita ("I will sing for you, my country"), with songs from the Spanish era up to the 20th century.
