Eddie Avoth

Eddie Avoth (Born Cardiff, Wales May 2nd 1945) is a former boxer and actor.

Eddie Avoth was a product of the famous Eddie Thomas boxing gym based in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, which spawned the boxing careers of such notables as Howard Winstone and Ken Buchanan . Avoth's professional boxing career spanned 9 years and in this time he won the British & Commonwealth titles. Eddie retired from the ring in 1972. He was also an accomplished amateur boxer and represented his country on many occasions.
Following retirement from boxing, Avoth settled in Puerto Banus, Costa del Sol, Spain where he part-owned a well-known celebrity restaurant. He now resides back in the UK.
Avoth's acting career began with a starring role for entertainment giant Warner Brothers in their 1986 blockbuster film "Instant Justice" where he starred alongside Michael Pare, Tawny Kitaen and Charles Napier. The successful film was directed by Hollywood producer Craig T Rumar. In 2007 the worlds of boxing and acting merge when Avoth stars as Jack Solomons in the movie "Risen", a biopic about the 'Welsh Warrior' and former stablemate Howard Winstone. Others mooted for roles include John Noble (Lord of the Rings),Stuart Brennan, Brian Blessed and DJ Roy Noble. According to recent web reports, Avoth's own character is to be played by boxer Enzo Maccarinelli. Other current boxers involved in the project include Joe Calzaghe and Dai Davies. The film is due for release in Fall 2008.
He now regularly travels around the UK and to Ireland giving his humorous after dinner speeches to welcoming audiences. Avoth is often found karaoke singing, specializing in a Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin style counting "Thats Life" a favourite in his reportoire.
