Aries is an astrological sign that originated from the constellation Aries, and is the first sign of the zodiac. Aries is classed as a Positive or masculine, extrovert sign; its Element is Fire and its Quality is Cardinal.[1] Traditionally in astrology Aries is ruled by the planet Mars. The opposite sign to Aries is Libra. Under the tropical zodiac, Aries is occupied by the Sun from March 21 to April 19 (depending on the exact year), by definition beginning at vernal equinox. Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently from April 19 to May 19. The corresponding month in the Babylonian calendar is Arax Nisânu, dedicated to Anu and Bel.
In astrology the astrological signs represent twelve equal segments or divisions of the zodiac. According to astrological beliefs, celestial phenomena reflect or govern human activity on the principle of "as above, so below", so that the twelve signs at the same time are held to represent twelve basic personality types or characteristic modes of expression.[2] The scientific community generally considers astrology as a pseudoscience or superstition.[3][4] ; yet despite this, belief in astrology remains widespread.[5][6][7][8]

In mythology Aries is often associated with the Greek myth of the ram which carried Athamas's son Phrixus and daughter Helle to Colchis to escape their stepmother Ino, as well as the mythological figure of Theseus, from the Greek myth of the Minotaur.
The astrological symbol for Aries is said to represent the head and horns of the ram, and originates from the cluster of stars which constitute the head of the Aries (constellation), according to the work of Doctor Acacandam dating from 1592. The head of Aries is given the name of Aluathay or Salhay, and it consists of four stars.
Astrologers are in broad agreement that the following are the characteristics of Aries: [9] The Aries person is assertive, brave, energetic, proactive, intelligent, individualistic, ardent, generous, independent, impulsive, full of strength, competitive, eager, straightforward, forceful, headstrong, pioneering, a leader, focused on the present and freedom-loving.
They can also sometimes be intemperate, violent, selfish, impatient, fiery, insensitive, insulting, blunt, mean, rash, rebellious, extreme, and arrogant. Suitable occupations are where initiative and enterprise are needed, and preferably physical activity; such as soldiers, surgeons, engineers, sportspeople and explorers.
In terms of medical astrology and anatomy, Aries is said to rule the cranium, jaw, facial bones, brain, upper teeth, carotid arteries, and nerve centers.[citation needed] Physically, the Aries person is said athletic in appearance.[citation needed]
