America This Morning (formerly ABC World News This Morning prior to 11/13/06 [1]) is a 30 minute newscast offered by ABC News to ABC stations. It features the day's headlines, live reports from Washington, D.C., a sports package from ESPNews, and a regular money segment called MoneyScope. It is broadcast live at 4:30 a.m. Eastern Time and is intended to be shown prior to an ABC affiliate's local morning news and Good Morning America. It debuted on July 5, 1982. The newscast celebrated its 20th anniversary during the summer of 2002
The program was initially anchored by Steve Bell. Other anchors from the past include Morton Dean, Kathleen Sullivan, Jeanne Meserve, Edie Magnus, Jed Duvall, Mike Schneider, Forrest Sawyer, Thalia Assuras, Anderson Cooper, JuJu Chang, Alison Stewart, Liz Cho, Derek McGinty, David Muir, Ron Corning and Hari Sreenivasan.
The program is currently anchored by alternating anchors Taina Hernandez and Ryan Owens, who also anchor ABC's World News Now (WNN) back-to-back. Unlike World News Now, this newscast has a more serious tone. For example, Derek McGinty wore short sleeves and a loosened tie while anchoring WNN, but switched to a full business suit for This Morning.
ABC News programming is shown daily on the 24 hour news network Orbit News in Europe and the Middle East. This includes America This Morning.
