Aliki Vougiouklaki

Aliki Vougiouklaki (Greek: Αλίκη Βουγιουκλάκη, born Maroussi, Athens, Greece July 20, 1934 and died on July 23, 1996 of pancreatic cancer in Athens) was a Greek movie star and a singer who appeared in 42 mostly musical movies. She is considered to be one of the idols of Greek cinema together with Dimitris Papamichail, who was her husband in the 1960s.

  • Aliki won a prize for her performance in the movie Madalena, in 1960, from the Greek Film Festival in Thessaloniki.
  • Madalena was a favourite to win the great prize in Cannes Film Festival.
  • Her son Giannis Papamichail, is a music producer.
  • Her movie Ipolochagos Natassa, scored 751.000 tickets in Athens. That made it the most successful film of all time in Greece.
  • Thousands of people attended her funeral in 1996, grieving the loss of their super star.
  • Aliki starred in a tv sitcom only once, in early 90's. Efthimi Xira(Happy Widow) aired on ANT1 but scored low ratings.
