Alan Howard

Alan MacKenzie Howard, CBE, (born 5 August 1937) is an English actor known for his roles on stage and television and film.

Howard is the son of the actor Arthur Howard and the nephew of Leslie Howard. He was educated at Ardingly College, West Sussex. He is married to Sally Beauman and they have one son. He was named a Commander of the British Empire in 1998.
He received the London Critics Circle Theater Award for Best Actor of 1980 for his roles in Richard III, Forest and Good.
His film roles include The Americanization of Emily (1964), Oxford Blues (1984) and The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989). He was also the voice of The Ring in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).
He has been seen in such series as the The Return of Sherlock Holmes, Midsomer Murders and Foyle's War. He also gave performances as Mr Spenlow in David Copperfield and as Maurice Wilkins in Life Story.
