There are many types of aerodynes, shown below divided into the following categories:
The most widely known type of aerodyne is the airplane, but all aerodyne that owe thier lift due to thier wings are Fixed wing aerodynes.
Helecopters are the most widely known, but autogyros are another type of Rotary wing aerodynes.
This concept includes classes:
- ornithopters: a rarer type of aircraft that is neither fixed-wing, nor rotary-wing.
- Rotorcraft: helicopters, autogyros, gyrodynes
- Fixed-wing aircraft: airplanes, gliders, lifting bodies
In addition, the name may refer to:

- The Aerodyne – a 1986 short film directed by Stan Brakhage.
