AMF Bowling Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

AMF Bowling Worldwide Inc. owns and operates AMF Bowling Centers in the United States and four other countries. The centers offer multi-lane Ten-pin bowling for all ages, support league play, and often also serve food, snacks, and beverages, and sometimes other entertainments such as pool tables, air hockey tables, and/or arcade machines. Other features may include glow in the dark Xtreme Bowling, where the overhead lights are turned off and UV lights are activated along the lanes along with disco lights and music, Bumper Bowling, in which the gutters are blocked by bumpers to prevent gutterballs (usually for children or beginner players), or late night specials in which players can purchase several games in a package combo with snack food and a soft drink/soda.

AMF are the organisers of the world famous AMF World Cup, a prestigious ten-pin bowling event.

AMF originally stood for American Machine and Foundry and now it is just AMF.

AMF merged its automatic scoring and bowling machine business with Qubica in 2005 to form Qubica/AMF Worldwide. The bowling centers remain a separate entity of AMF.

AMF Worldwide is no longer the owners of AMF Bowling UK or AMF Bowling Australia. AMF Bowling UK is now owned by certain shareholders of Bourne Leisure Ltd in the UK, the owners of Haven, Butlins and Warner holidays.

There are video games AMF licensed for many systems such as AMF Probowl 3D, AMF Bowling 2004 (XBOX), AMF Xtreme Bowling 2006 for PS2/XBOX and AMF Xtreme Bowling 2D/3D for mobile phone. AMF Xtreme Bowling(3D) is highly acclaimed as with most cellphone bowling games[1], however all other games suffered many criticisms [2] [3] [4] [5].
