The Foxfield Railway was constructed in 1893 to carry coal from Foxfield Colliery to the North Staffordshire Railway at Blythe Bridge. Following the closure of the colliery in 1965 the line was rescued by the volunteers of the Foxfield Light Railway Society, who today operate the line as a passenger-carrying railway.The railway was built at minimum cost to the mine owners and hence steep gradients and sharp bends abound.
